US M981 FIST-V

Winston Gould | Academy #1361

The M981 FIST-V (Fire Support Team Vehicle) was a U.S. Army artillery observation and fire-support vehicle based on the M113A2. Its distinctive elevating turret resembled the launcher of the M901 Improved TOW Vehicle, helping disguise its battlefield role. Equipped with laser rangefinding, thermal-imaging, navigation, and communications equipment, the M981 allowed forward observers to locate targets and coordinate artillery and mortar fire while remaining under armor. It served with U.S. mechanized and armored units from the 1980s into the 1990s.
